Coughy Break

Would you rather be asleep
And sitting up, or ensupined
While wide awake all night? I keep
Deciding…then I change my mind.

The horizontal state attracts
But fails to knit the ravel’d sleeve;
The comfort that the upright lacks
Is weighed against what ZZZs achieve.

Just sitting here, I’m drifting off,
My chin is bouncing on my chest.
I’m irrecumbent lest my cough
Return, and thus irrupt my rest.

All igual, to sleep’s a pain
While vertical, but since I can’t
Take more awake, I’ll not have lain
Down flat tonight, but on a slant.
