Though celebrations have been few
To list in my Year in Review,
At least there’s this: I haven’t yet
Been tasked with Annum in Regret.
Month: December 2025
What Could Possibly Go Right?
Only one more day
And I’ll have achieved my dream
Of a goal-free year!
Still Working On Y26
Remember Y2K? I do.
I write 4-digit years, not 2-,
Today because how deeply burned
My neurons were by what we learned
(Or should have): Shortcuts may be fast,
But problems don’t stay in the past
Unless they’re faced and vanquished then.
They still need solving. You choose when.
Jeté-Away Day
The Christmas ferry wasn’t yum–
I never saw a sugarplum–
But that may mean the voyage back
Won’t feel it owes my nuts a crack.
Metrics: My Tricks
Transposition is the key
For quickly shifting F to C
(Or Celsius to Fahrenheit)
And landing pretty close to right.
10 is 50 for a start,
But here’s the bit that makes you smart;
Once you’ve got these swappers down,
Just guess the rest, and go to town:
16 C’s F’s 61,
So, ones and sixes: cool. That’s fun!
28 is 82;
Eights and twos mean warm. It’s true!
Each C’s an F times 1.8;
You’re fine if you approximate
Two F’s per C, then shave a hair,
And count out from a mirrored pair.
Minus-40 in degrees
Of both persuasions match, but please
Don’t mix up other F’s and C’s
When wearing T’s, or else you’ll freeze.
Victorian Christmas
Poutine in a pub:
A Boxing Day tradition
Since ought-twenty-five.
A Visit From St. Knuckleas
More magic’s on the way
For fighters who believe
‘Cause every Christmas Day
Is also Boxing Eve
Santicipation
Happy Christmas Eve
To all those who celebrate
Things that aren’t here yet
Also, You May Be Receiving A Visitor
You better watch out!
No particular reason.
It’s just good advice.
Maybe Next Week
Every Monday, cut the deck
And check the cut card.
It’s…two?
Heck.
Don’t give up. It’s not that hard
To cut a Jack-or-higher card:
3-in-10’s your chance to win!
Week 51’s cut’s…two.
Again.
