Participation Nation

To those of you who took the time to vote
For president this week, my heartfelt thanks.
You’ve helped to keep democracy afloat
Despite the siren call of fear and angst.
You didn’t worry that the box you checked
Might lead to consequences undesired,
Or else you did, but carried on. Respect
And kudos to you. You’re to be admired.
It truly doesn’t matter whether those
Who disagree with whom you picked are sad
Or giddy from the outcome; that you chose
At all means more good came from this than bad.
Remember, half of all who could did not.
You did what you could do. That means a lot.
