The Birthday Sonnet

My deepest and most heartfelt hope is that
On this, the anniversary of your
Assumption of the role of Navy Brat,
Your day is quite the opposite of poor.
If happiness were something one could hold
And transfer to another, like a fish,
I’d go to where such merchandise was sold
And purchase all the Happy Fish you wish.
From dawn to dusk, and through the darkness too,
For two point seven thousandths of a year
May all the planet’s joy to you accrue,
To celebrate your birthday, Mother Dear.
Imagine I’ve just sung the words above
To copyrighted melodies of love.
